Behind the Mic

It all started in 7th grade when Kyle’s English teacher would have a few students read an entry from their journals each class session. By the end of the year, he would be asked to read his entry to the class every day. Kyle didn’t know it at the time, but that marked the beginning of the, “You should be on the radio” comments.

Enter High School where English teachers would ask Kyle to read sections of literature out loud to the class. Science teachers would ask him to read the instructions in the Chemistry lab and History teachers asked him to voice famous generals to liven up the class.

Outside of class, Kyle became known for his Optimus Prime impression. While not very good, it was a fun party trick and made for excellent prank phone calls (and still does).

College is where things started heating up. Kyle would be asked by students in the Media & Entertainment lab to voice some of their projects. Eventually, he joined the Speech & Debate Team where he got a Bronze Medal at the State Championship tournament for his Prose Interpretation and a Silver Medal at the National Tournament for his Persuasive Speech about Blue Light Damage from our gadgets.

Fast forward to today and Kyle recently completed his 6th year as a coach for the Speech Team. He has emceed several events around town, such as the Empowering Hearts Gala for the nonprofit Single Mothers Outreach and the Walk to End Alzheimer’s for the Alzheimer’s Association. For Kyle, this is only the beginning and he is excited for what the future brings!
